The bluefish are bigger, and feistier!!
We have just got over the unseasonable cool spell which came with it's own north east gale. I thought it would be difficult to fish the beach because the surf was still rough. And so it turned out, but that did not dampen the action. Just before high tide, the schools arrived, just 15" but hungry as hell.
I was fishing with a fishfinder rig, a 3/0 hook, and 50# flurocarbon leader. The fish would hit with almost every big wave, picking up the bait and following the swell toward the beach. The best sign of the bite was the sudden slackening of the line. If you didnt react quickly and get in the slack, the fish had your bait and spat out your hook before it could be set.
If you were quick enough, a healthy battle ensued, particlarly near the beach, where the backwash was very powerful with each wave.
Had a great day!!!
